1. Information We Collect
We only collect the absolute minimum information required to operate MapPoster. We do not require you to create an account to use the map generator.
- Payment Information: If you purchase a high-resolution export, your payment is processed securely by Paddle, our merchant of record. Payments for printed posters are processed by Stripe. We do not store or process your credit card numbers on our servers.
- Print Orders: When you order a printed poster, we receive your name, email address and shipping address, and the poster image, which is stored in our Cloudflare R2 storage so it can be printed. To make the image at print quality on any device, your browser sends us the poster's design (as in a share link, including its text) and our server makes the image in a browser on Cloudflare; otherwise your browser makes and uploads it. We pass your name, shipping address and the image to our print partner, Gelato, which prints and ships the poster, and send order and shipping emails through Resend. We keep the order record (contact and shipping details, size, amount, payment, order and tracking numbers) and the image for as long as needed to fulfil, reprint or refund the order and as long as tax law requires us to keep order records. To have them deleted sooner where the law allows, email us. When you send a print as a gift, it ships to the name and address you give for the recipient; if you also give their email address, your name and message, we use them only to email the recipient once, when the gift ships, and keep them with the order record.
- High-Resolution Downloads Made on Our Server: When your device can't make a purchased high-resolution download at full size itself (most phones and tablets), your browser sends us the poster's design (as in a share link, including its text) and the Paddle transaction number of your purchase. Our server checks with Paddle that the purchase is paid, makes the image in a browser on Cloudflare and sends it to your device; we don't keep the image. With our records of the purchase we keep its transaction number, a fingerprint of the design and how many files were made, so that a purchase serves its own design.
- Analytics and Ads: We may use third-party services like Google AdSense and Google Analytics to monitor usage and display targeted advertisements. These services may use cookies or similar tracking technologies to collect anonymized usage data.
- Map and Search Services: To show maps, your browser loads map tiles directly from OpenFreeMap, the OpenStreetMap Foundation and Esri. They receive your IP address and the map area you view, under their own privacy policies. Place searches go through our server to Komoot's Photon service and, when you press Enter, the OpenStreetMap Foundation's Nominatim service; they see our server rather than your IP address. If our server cannot be reached, your browser asks Photon directly. Search results are cached by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, for up to 7 days. We do not store your search text: we only count searches (which service answered, whether the answer came from the cache, and how long it took). For a poster with a route, its points go through our server to Geoapify, which works out the driving route; Geoapify sees our server rather than your IP address, and routes are cached by Cloudflare for up to 30 days.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain our Service.
- Process your premium export payments securely.
- Serve relevant advertisements to support the free tier of the application.
- Analyze usage trends to improve the user experience.
3. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Service and hold certain information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.
4. Your Data and Images
The map images you generate in the web app are created entirely within your web browser using HTML5 Canvas technology. We do not save, store, or transmit those posters to our servers. The final high-resolution or 1080p image is downloaded directly to your device. Posters you order as a print, high-resolution downloads our server makes for a phone or tablet, and posters rendered through the MapPoster API are the exceptions; see sections 1 and 5.
5. MapPoster in Claude and ChatGPT, and the MapPoster API
Claude and ChatGPT. When you use MapPoster in Claude or ChatGPT, the app sends our server the inputs of each tool call: place searches, poster text and settings, and, in Claude, your API key if you connected with one. These calls come from Anthropic's or OpenAI's servers, not from your device. We do not receive your conversation, your name, your email address or your own location. We use these inputs only to find the place and design the poster, and return a link to it. Place searches are passed on to the OpenStreetMap Foundation's Nominatim service (or, if it is unavailable, Komoot's Photon service) to find their coordinates, and the points of a route to Geoapify to find the driving route. Search results are cached by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, for up to 7 days, and Cloudflare keeps our server's request logs for up to 7 days. We do not store your poster text or keep a log of your search text; as for the editor, we only count searches.
Poster card. In chat apps that show it, the poster card draws your poster in your browser. To do that, your browser loads map data from OpenFreeMap (for the Classic Street and Satellite themes, map tiles from the OpenStreetMap Foundation and Esri) and fonts from Google Fonts; a route comes with the poster from our server. These services receive your IP address and the map area, under their own privacy policies. When you try another style in the card, the card tells Claude or ChatGPT which design is on show, so the assistant can carry on with it; this stays within the chat app and doesn't reach our server. The card's buttons open mapposter.xyz, where the rest of this policy applies, including the Print Orders part for a print you order there.
Your choices. You can remove MapPoster from Claude or ChatGPT at any time in the app's settings. As we keep no account, poster or conversation data for these apps, there is nothing to delete afterwards; for any question, contact us (section 7).
API accounts. When you buy an API plan, Stripe processes the payment and shares your email address and your Stripe customer and subscription IDs with us. We store these together with a hashed version of your API key, your plan and monthly usage, and a record of each render (render ID, file fingerprint, format and date) so we can verify posters later. Rendered files are stored in our Cloudflare R2 storage at a hard-to-guess address that anyone with the link can open. We keep this data for as long as your API account exists, and render records for as long as they are needed to verify posters you have sold. To have your data or renders deleted, email us.
6. Pinterest API
Mapposter uses the Pinterest API to publish and manage content on our own Pinterest account. Site visitors and customers do not connect Pinterest accounts to Mapposter.
Mapposter is not endorsed by or affiliated with Pinterest, Inc.
We do not store Pinterest content on our servers beyond what is needed for an in-progress operation. The only items retained between sessions are the OAuth tokens for our own Pinterest account. If the integration is disconnected, these tokens and any cached Pinterest data are deleted within 30 days.
We do not sell or license data obtained from the Pinterest API to third parties, and we do not combine Pinterest API data with customer data.
7. Reviews of Prints
When your print has arrived, the email that tells you so asks for a review, with a link that belongs to your order. Customers who ordered before reviews began, and those whose delivery isn't reported, get one short request instead. Every request has a link to stop them, and using the review link is up to you. A review keeps your rating, what you write, the name you choose to show (your first name and initial to start with; leave it empty to show as a verified buyer) and which print you ordered.
Reviews are shown on mapposter.xyz with that name, the print and the date, never with your email address or order. We publish every review, good or bad, except spam or abuse. You can change your review with the same link, and we delete it when you ask us to.
